Salary Programs

Salary Programs At-A-Glance

The information presented below is a summary of the details contained in the applicable bargaining unit contract or salary program.  This information is not intended to replace or be relied upon in lieu of the applicable bargaining unit contract or salary program.

CX - Clerical and Allied Services   (Step-Based Salary Structure)

Status

Contract period of February 15, 2006 - September 30, 2008.  Contract expired on 09/30/2008. Successor negotiations in progress.

Range Adjustments

Effective October 1, 2005: A 3.5% increase to the step-based salary structure for classifications in the CX unit.  For classifications in the Library Assistant series, an additional 5.1% increase to the step-based salary structure, resulting in a total 8.6% base-building increase.
Effective October 1, 2006: A 3.25% increase to the step-based salary structure for classifications in the CX unit.
Effective October 1, 2007: A 4.5% increase to the step-based salary structure for classifications in the CX unit.
Eligibility: Employees must be in the CX unit and on pay status on the payout date.

Merit

No merit program.

Equity

Effective October 1, 2006:   A half-step with-in range increase for all library assistants.

One-Time Payments

Effective October 1, 2005: Lump sum payment of $180 (pro-rated by current appointment percentage).  Eligibility:  Employees must be in the CX unit on December 15, 2004 and as of the ratification date of February 15, 2006 and the payout date.

8 hours of vacation accrual for career employees in the CX unit who transferred or promoted out of the bargaining unit between December 15, 2004 and the payout date, but remain on UC payroll (pro-rated by current appointment percentage).

Shift Differentials

Effective March 1, 2006: $0.15/hour increase to existing shift differentials.
Effective July 1, 2006:  $0.10/hour increase to existing shift differentials.
Effective July 1, 2007:  $0.10/hour increase to existing shift differentials.
Note:  Shift differential rates to be capped @ $1.25/hour.

Special Wage Increase for Lower-paid Employees

Effective April 1, 2007:

  • Employees in title codes with weighted average base salaries less than $30,000 will receive a 1.5% increase;
    • - Includes title codes 4673, 4108, 4672, 4724, 6761
  • Employees in titles codes with weighted average base salaries of $30,000 or more but less than $32,000 will receive a 1% increase;
    • - Includes title code 4107
  • Employees in title codes with weighted average base salaries of $32,000 or more but less than $40,000 will receive a 0.75% increase.
    • - Includes title codes 4723, 5215, 6760, 4105, 4722

Eligibility: Employees must be in the CX unit, hold one of the eligible title codes, and be on active status (or approved leave) on the effective date of the salary increase and the actual payout date of May 1, 2007.

Other

Range Structure Adjustments, effective October 1, 2005: For all classifications EXCEPT the Library Assistant series, four half-steps shall be added (each half step equal to approximately 2.25%) at the top of each range. For the Library Assistant series, two half-steps shall be added (each half step equal to approximately 2.25%).
Range Structure Adjustments, effective October 1, 2007: For all classifications EXCEPT the Library Assistant series, two half-steps shall be added (each half step equal to approximately 2.25%) at the top of the range.
Premium Holiday Pay: Three additional premium holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.

CX History  



EX - Patient Care Technical (Open Range Transitioning to Step-Based Salary Structure)

Status

Contract period of November 13, 2008 through September 30, 2012.

Range Adjustment

Effective December  1, 2008: 4% range adjustment to the minimum and the maximum of the open range salary structure and base-building salary increase for employees across the board (up to range maximum and the remainder in a retirement eligible lump sum)
Effective January 1, 2009: 2.5% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees
Effective July 1, 2009: 2.5% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees
Effective January 1, 2010: 3.0% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees
Effective January 1, 2011: 3.0% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees; 1% to be added to range adjustment or market equities
Effective January 1, 2012: 3.0% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees; 1% to be added to range adjustment or market equities
Eligibility: Employees must be in the PCT (EX) unit and on pay status on the payout date 

Merit

No merit program.

Other

Effective November 1, 2007:

  • 4%  Lump Sum payment based on actual hours worked from 11/01/2007 through 11/30/2008

Effective December 1, 2008:

  • Transition to a step-based salary structure based on years of UC experience within a title
  • Lump Sum payment for the difference between the new rate and the step placement rate from 09/01/2008 through 11/30/2008

Eligibility: All  PCT (EX) employees are eligible if they are in the unit on the date of ratification and on the payout date.

Effective July 1, 2009: Step progression within range.  One step increase for eligible employees.  Movement will be on a year for year basis through the step structure

HX - Health Care Professionals (Open Range Transitioning to Step-Based Salary Structure)

Status

Contract period of May 30, 2007 though June 30, 2011 with wage article reopener July 2009 and July 2010.

Range Adjustment

Effective April 1, 2007

  • 10% Range Adjustment and Salary Increase for all eligible employees in the Clinical Laboratory Scientist classifications.
  • 15% Range Adjustment and Salary Increase for all eligible employees in the Pharmacist classifications.
  • 4% Range Adjustment and Salary Increase for all eligible employees in other HX classifications.

Effective July 1, 2008:
4% range adjustment to the step based salary structure and salary increases for all eligible employees.

Merit

Effective July 1, 2008: 1 step increase based on satisfactory or better performance. 

Eligibility: Employees must be at a within range salary rate to be eligible for step based merit increases.

Special Wage Increase for Lower-paid Employees

Effective April 1, 2007, all eligible employees represented by UPTE who work in titles that are paid less than $40,000 a year on average shall receive increases as follows:

  • Employees earning $34,500 or less: 1.95% salary increase
  • Employees earning $34,501 - $35,500: 0.95% salary increase
  • Employees earning $35,001 - $39,999: 0.5% salary increase

Eligibility: Employees must be in the HX unit, hold one of the eligible title codes, and be on active status (or approved leave) on the effective date of the salary increase and the actual payout date.

Other

Effective March 30, 2007:

  • $1000.00 Lump Sum payable to all those in the HX bargaining unit on the contract ratification date (March 30, 2007).
  • Movement to the next-higher zone for eligible employees.
  • Increase of shift differential to $0.37/hr.

Effective July 1, 2007:

  • 4% Salary Increase for all eligible employees.
  • Transition to a step-based salary structure.
  • Increase of shift differential to $0.47/hr.

Effective July 1, 2008:

  • Increase of shift differential to $0.57/hr.
  • 2 steps to be added to the top of the salary step structures for title codes 8939 (Scientist Specialist, CL Lab) & 9246 (Sr. Pharmacist)

 

HX History 



K5 – Skilled Crafts (Step-Based Salary Structure)

Status

Contract period of December 8, 2008 through September 30, 2011.

Range Adjustment

Effective October 1, 2008:  1.5% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees
Effective October 1, 2009:  2.0% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees
Effective October 1, 2010:  2.0% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees
Eligibility: Employees must be in the K5 unit and on pay status on the payout date.

Merit

Merit increase of one-half step, one step, and one and one-half step for satisfactory, more than satisfactory and superior performance, respectively, effective October 1 of each calendar year during the contract period.
Eligibility: K5 employees who are below the maximum of their salary range.

Shift Differentials

NX - Registered Nurse (Step-Based Salary Structure)

Status

Contract period of March 25, 2008 – September 30, 2010 with wage article reopener September 2008 and September 2009

Range Adjustment

Effective April 1, 2008:  

  • 3.5% Range Adjustment for all non per diem Clinical Nurse & Nurse Practitioner titles. 
  • 5% Range Adjustment for the Nurse Per Diem title. 
  • 4% Range Adjustment for the Nurse Practitioner Per Diem title.

Effective March 1, 2009:  

  • 4.8% Range Adjustment for Clinical Nurse titles. 
  • 5.5% Range Adjustment for Nurse Practitioner titles  

 

Merit

No merit program.

Other

Effective July 1, 2008: Step progression within range based on years of experience grid for all non Per Diem Clinical Nurse and Nurse Practitioner titles

Effective July 1, 2009:

PA - Police (Step-Based Salary Structure)

Status

Contract period of October 22, 2008 - September 30, 2011 with wage article reopener every October

Range Adjustment

Effective October 1, 2008:  2.0% range adjustment and base-building salary increases for employees across the board

Merit

Individual non probationary officers who are at least one step below the maximum of their salary range shall receive a minimum one step increase contingent upon a determination of satisfactory or better performance. Non-probationary officers who are one-half step below the maximum of their salary range shall receive a one-half step increase contingent upon a determination of satisfactory or better performance.
Probationary Officers as of October 1, 2004 and those hired thereafter. For each year this contract is in effect, such individual officers shall receive a minimum one step increase upon satisfactory completion of their probationary period. Thereafter, for each year this contract is in effect, such officers shall receive a minimum one step increase on the anniversary of the completion of his/her probationary period contingent upon a determination of satisfactory or better performance.

Other

Effective October 1, 2008: Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification Pay Increase
POST Intermediate Certificate shall receive additional compensation in the amount of $225 per month.
POST Advanced Certificate shall receive additional compensation in the amount of $325 per month.
Effective October 1, 2008:  Longevity Pay
4% for officers with 10 years or more of continuous active UC sworn experience and minimum one year at top step with current satisfactory or better performance evaluation.

RX - Research Support Professionals (Step-Based Salary Structure)

Status

Contract period of October 1, 2004 through June 30, 2008.  Contract expired on 06/30/2008. Successor negotiations in progress.

Range Adjustment

Effective October 1, 2005:  Implementation of a 3% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure.  All eligible employees currently over the maximum of the range will receive the full range adjustment.
Effective October 1, 2006:  Implementation of a 2.8% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure (includes 0.5% IAP money in base).  Range adjustment provided up to the new maximum of the range, then:  ˝ of remaining range adjustment provided as a lump sum and ˝ of the remaining range adjustment is provided as a base building increase.
Effective October 1, 2007:  Implementation of a 3.8% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure (includes 0.5% equity money in base).  All eligible employees currently over the maximum of the range will receive the full range adjustment.
Eligibility:  Employees in the bargaining unit on the effective date of the increase and at the time of payment.

Merit

Effective January 1, 2007:  1 step increase based on satisfactory or better performance.
Effective January 1, 2008:  1 step increase based on satisfactory or better performance.
Eligibility:  Employees must be at a within-range salary rate to be eligible for step-based merit increases.  Above-range employees are subject to additional eligibility requirements described in Article 6, Section F.

One-Time Payments

Effective upon ratification (12/22/05):  Lump Sum Signing Bonus of $220 per employee (proportional to appointment at the time of payment).

Shift Differentials

Effective July 1, 2006:  $0.20 increase to existing shift differential rates.
Effective July 1, 2007:  $0.15 increase to existing shift differential rates.
Note:  Shift differential rates to be capped @ $1.25 for evening shift and $2.00
for night shift.

SX - Service (Open Range Salary Structure transitioning to Step Based Salary Structure)

Status

Contract period of February 12, 2009 through January 31, 2013. 

Range Adjustment

Effective October 1, 2008: 3% range adjustment to the minimum and the maximum of the open range salary structure and base-building salary increase for employees across the board (up to range maximum and the remainder in a retirement eligible lump sum)
Effective July 1, 2009: 1% range adjustment to the minimum and the maximum of the open range salary structure and base-building salary increase for employees across the board (up to range maximum and the remainder in a retirement eligible lump sum).  The minimum of the salary range/step structures and rates of pay must be $12.00/hour
Effective October 1, 2010: 3% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees.  The minimum of the salary range/step structures and rates of pay must be $13.00/hour.
Effective October 1, 2011: 3% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees (contingent upon receipt of state funding for salaries).  The minimum of the salary range/step structures and rates of pay must be $13.50/hour.                                                                        Effective October 1, 2012: 3% range adjustment to the step-based salary structure and salary increase for all employees (contingent upon receipt of state funding for salaries).  The minimum of the salary range/step structures and rates of pay must be $14.00/hour.

Shift Differentials

.67 evening and night shifts (No Change)

Note:  Shift differential rates to be capped @ $1.25/hour for evening shift and @ $2.00/hour for night shift.

Effective October 1, 2009: 

  • 3% base-building salary increase for employees across the board (up to range maximum and the remainder in a retirement eligible lump sum)
  • Create new step structure based on current ranges with 2% step intervals
  • Minimum of new salary step structure must be $12.50/hour
  • Transition to salary step structure based on years of experience in a title code (2 years of UC experience as of 09/30/2009, within a title equals 1 step

  • Additional step increase (if not fully transitioned in 10/2009)

  • 1 step increase (within range for non-probationary career employees)

Status

Equity

Effective July 1, 2006:  4% equity increase to Animal Technician & Animal Health Technician titles.  2% to Laboratory Assistant I and Laboratory Assistant II; 2% to Stage Helpers, Scene Technician Series and Projectionist Series.

Premium Holiday Pay:  Three premium holidays added (e.g., Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day) for a total of six premium holidays.
Certification Pay: ALAT – $50; LAT - $100; LATG - $100; RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) - $100.  An employee who has achieved LAT, LATG, or RVT certification shall only receive certification pay compensation up to the $100/month rate, as pay shall not be compounded.

99 - Student Assistant (Open Range Salary Structure)

Status

Fiscal year 2008-2009 in effect.

Range Adjustment

Effective January 1, 2008: Increase to the minimum and maximum of the open ranges.
Assistant I minimum increased to $8.00/hr.
Assistant II minimum increased to $8.50/hr.

Merit

Effective March 1, 2008: A merit increase of up to $.75 per hour may be given once during a fiscal year to student employees after the completion of at least two quarters in the department in which performance has been satisfactory or better. The department determines the amount of merit. The following are guidelines for merit increase amounts: Satisfactory Performance - up to $.20/hour; More Than Satisfactory - up to $.35/hour; and Superior - up to $.75/hour.
