Lecturers Ratify Three-Year Agreement

The University of California announced on October 17, 2011, that lecturers ratified a three-year agreement on wages, health benefits and other important workplace issues. The Agreement covers the University's more than 3,000 lecturers.Read full announcement

Union Representation

The University periodically provides employees with information about the process of union representation. Some common questions that employees have asked concerning the representation process and its implications are available here. UC seeks to make certain that employees understand this process and exercise informed choices. If you have additional questions, call the Labor Relations Office at ext. 2-3641 (951-827-3641).

Public Notice under HEERA - UC Riverside and IUOE Local 501 Successor Contract Negotiations

The Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act, which governs collective bargaining of higher education employers in the state of California, requires that the University, as the employer provides notice to the public before it begins negotiations with an exclusive representative.

The current collective bargaining agreement between the University of California, Riverside, and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 501, provides for successor contract negotiations in 2011.  More information can be found here.

New Chancellor’s Recognition of Staff & Faculty Service Program

The new Chancellor's Recognition of Staff & Faculty Service program has been established to recognize the dedication and service of staff, faculty and other eligible academic personnel. The revised program offers more meaningful awards, which recognizes the commitment and contributions made to our students, the mission of the university, and the community. The program is effective September 1, 2011.

New Student On-Campus Employment Program (SOCEP)

The new Student On-Campus Employement program has been established to assist departments in promoting student employment opportunities and students in finding employment on campus. The program is effective September 1, 2011.

Employee-initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) Program

Effective July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012

The ERIT program allows career staff employees, except Senior Managers, to voluntarily reduce their percentage of appointment and pay in order for the University to achieve salary savings. ERIT is similar to the expired Staff and Academic Reduction in Time Program (START) in that employees will receive certain specified advantages, such as vacation and sick leave based on the rate at which they accrued these leaves prior to participating in the ERIT Program. UCRP service credit will accrue based on the reduced percentage of appointment.

New Retiree Health Benefits Factsheet

This last December the Regents approved changes to retiree health benefits. A factsheet summarizing the details of the changes is now available on UC’s website, The Future of UC Retirement Benefits. (Spanish version available)

Reasonable Accommodation Video

The University provides reasonable accommodation to otherwise qualified employees who are disabled or become disabled and need assistance to perform the essential functions of their positions. Reasonable Accommodation is addressed through the use of the interactive process to determine what, if any, reasonable accommodation will be made.
