For actions within policy, the following documents must be completed and submitted to Human Resources at least 30 days in advance of the appointment begin date:
|
Step Two |
Human Resources will review and forward a recommendation to the Vice Chancellor - Planning, Budget and Administration for final determination. |
Step Three |
Human Resources will send the final determination to the designated individual within the organizational unit. |
Step Four |
Rehired Retirees shall not begin a rehired retiree appointment or extension without the final approval from Human Resources, the Vice Chancellor - Business and Administrative Services, and if necessary, the Chancellor. Note: Actions that are considered variations from policy (exceptions) are not anticipated, and will require additional justification and approval by the Chancellor. |
Additional Information |
- Effective December 1, 2016, rehired retiree appointments will generally be established with a non-exempt appointment status.
- Reemployment beyond 24 cumulative months (except for those rehired into career appointments) will be considered an exception to policy.
- If a retiree is to be hired into a career appointment, a recruitment is required and the retiree must suspend their monthly retirement installments (lump sum cash-out retirees cannot be rehired into a career appointment).
- UC retirees can be hired as Independent Contractors or Consultants (IC/C) provided this method is not used to circumvent policy. Examples of circumventing the policy include hiring an IC/C UC retiree:
- to do work that is the same/similar to work that is typically done by employees, or
- to do work that is the same or similar to work the UC retiree did at the university prior to retiring.
